Overview
Baadshah is a beer brand under Magic Malts, a Canada-based brewery rooted in British Columbia. The brand was envisioned as a bold expression of Indian cultural pride, designed to resonate with a diverse, modern audience while standing out in a highly competitive beer market.
UnFoldMart partnered with Magic Malts to design the packaging for Baadshah, creating a visually striking beer can that blends heritage storytelling with contemporary shelf appeal.
The Challenge
The Canadian beer market is saturated with minimalist and western-styled packaging. Baadshah needed to:
- Stand out instantly on crowded shelves
- Celebrate Indian heritage without feeling dated or over-ornamental
- Appeal to a modern, multicultural audience
- Create packaging that feels premium and collectible
The challenge was to balance cultural richness with commercial clarity.
Our Approach
We approached Baadshah as a culture-first packaging project.
Rather than diluting the brand’s identity, we leaned into storytelling. Indian royalty, celebration, and strength became the foundation of the visual language, reinterpreted in a bold, modern way.
Our approach focused on:

- Story-driven illustration as the hero element
- High-contrast colors for shelf impact
- Clean information hierarchy for readability
The Execution
Beer Packaging Design
The Baadshah can design features a custom illustrated elephant motif, symbolising royalty, strength, and celebration. Traditional Indian art influences were modernised through simplified forms and controlled color usage.
Key design elements:
- Custom cultural illustration as the focal point
- Bold blackletter-inspired typography for authority
- Rich golden tones paired with earthy accents
- Clean label layout adaptable across can formats
Typography & Color System
Typography was selected to reinforce Baadshah’s regal personality while remaining legible at a distance. The color palette, anchored in gold and warm hues, helps the can command attention while maintaining a premium feel.
The system is designed to scale seamlessly for future variants.
The Outcome
Baadshah launched with a distinctive beer packaging identity that immediately sets it apart in the Canadian market.
